Mike Kagerer's Story
As you may know, my brother Mike has been diagnosed with CLL, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Mike lives in Anchorage Alaska and has undergone four rounds of chemotherapy to treat this disease. Mike's prognosis is good, however, a recent CAT Scan showed that Mike will likely have to undergo more rounds of chemotherapy starting in the fall.
Mike has lived in Alaska since 1983, and works with my brother John at the family owned business The Horn Doctor Music Store, Inc. Mike has many duties at the Horn Doctor, he apprenticed under John, and is now a fully trained technician, specializing primarily in flute and clarinet work. Mike holds a B. A. in Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, enjoys model railroading, car racing, and is a cinema buff. For fitness, Mike has been walking, bicycling and swimming.
Noah L. Wehner - Our Honored Hero
Each team that participates has an honored hero. Our hero is Noah Wehner of San Juan Capistrano, CA. Noah is 4 1/2 years old and has ALL, Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia with abnormal cytogenetics. Noah is in remission and is undergoing treatment that includes daily Chemo and steroids orally, chemo in porthacath every 28 days and spinal taps every 3-4 months. Noah is in Preschool and loves all types of Trains.
We are all learning that chemotherapy and fighting cancer is not an easy battle. I lost my father to cancer in 1992, however my mom is a cancer survivor. She underwent surgery for colon cancer at age 56, and for 26 years has been cancer free.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $360 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.
Since 1988, more than 265,000 Team In Training volunteer participants have helped raise more than $595 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Over 75% of all donations goes to funding research to find a cure for these diseases.
Please Help
Please join me in contributing what ever you can give. it all helps. Donating is simple, click on the DONATE link at the top of this page, (or click here) and donate today with your credit card. All donations are tax deductible and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society welcomes corporate matching programs.
My Promise to you
I have committed to raising approximately $2000.00 for LLS. Over 75 percent of all donations go directly to funding research. Were do the other 25 percent go? As with any organization there are administration needs in fund raising. With Team in Training, some of these costs are travel and lodging expenses for the events. To offset these expenses, I promise to match your denotations by 25%, (up to the cost of my training) to cover the benefits that I receive from this program. This way you can be assured that virtually all of your donation is helping to fund research for the society.
Track My Progress
I have set up two pages so that you can track how I'm doing with my daily training. The links at the top of this page will take you to my Running Calendar and Running Blog. What's a BLOG? Blog is short for Web Log, basically a journal of my activities while I move toward my goals.
What if I don't Make it?
First of all, this isn't going to be the case. BUT, if for any unforeseen reason, I don't compete in either of the above events, your donations will still go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. And I will stick to my promise of matching your donations.
Thank you very much.
Without the help of family and many friends, I could not even attempt such an undertaking. Thank you in advance, for your donations, prayers and encouragement. I cannot do this alone. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (714) 530-8111 or email me at:
I look forward to hearing from each and everyone of you.
May God Bless You All,
Joe Kagerer |
