Thursday, January 26, 2006 08:34:36 pm (PST)I'm retiring this blog today so my TNT site can remain intact without a lot of extra entries. To follow my current training progress please visit my new running page at

Monday, January 16, 2006 05:50:49 pm (PST)Arrived home from AZ today. I feel good, a bit sore from the marathon, but no injuries. The entire weekend was a great experience.
Sunday, January 15, 2006PF Chang's Rock & Roll Arizona Marathon! I finished my first marathon today. It was more grueling than I had imagined. 26.2 miles in 5 hours 48 minutes and 41 second. At mile 19 I was wondering if I could finish, it was a great experience.
Thursday, January 12, 2006 09:36:07 am (PST)In case you're wondering why I'm not running, in the days before the race we are supposed to rest. It seems odd to me not to run, but I understand that my body needs a break before the big event. I'm getting pre-race jitters, mostly because of the weather forcasts. Low of 39° for Phoenix. I'm not used to that cold of temperature.
Tuesday, January 10, 2006 08:07:58 pm (PST)It's supposed to be my taper so I went for an 'easy' 3 mile run around my neighborhood tonight. It didn't go so 'easy' but at least I got out there and got the heart pumping. I'm very anxious for Sunday.
Saturday, January 7, 2006 12:08:53 pm (PST)Today was the last training session with the Team in Huntington Beach. We ran an easy 8 mile run, tapering off in preparation of next Sunday. After the run, most of us went to breakfast.
Wednesday, January 4, 2006 07:39:13 pm (PST)4.0 miles tonight after work. I ran around Mile Square Park for the first time in a while. It's warm here tonight about 70°. I was hoping for a PR, but it didn't happen. It's very dark and the path has a lot of debris on it from our recent storms. I think that may have slowed me a little. However I did run it in 41:48 minutes, 10:27 minute miles. I'm very happy with that pace.
Monday, January 2, 2006 04:26:29 pm (PST)500 Training miles! I went into work today, but due to the weather and a power outage, they let us come home early. Torrential downpours here, but it managed to break up and I got out for a 6.0 mile run around my neighborhood. Very windy and still quite wet out, but nice to run in the daylight.
Sunday, January 1, 2006 12:48:54 pm (PST)Happy New Year! It's supposed to be a day of rest, but I rode 30 minutes on my stationary bike while I was watching TV today.
Saturday, December 31, 2005 11:06:57 am (PST)13 miles in Irvine today with the team. It's our official taper. Our long runs are over until race day. We set out to do 14 today, but since Irvine is not our normal running area, we got a bit lost. We skipped one mile, but added a very steep hill, so I'll call it even. My ankles are holding up pretty well today. Looking forward to the race.
Thursday, December 29, 2005 10:03:58 am (PST)The last run in Michigan, traveling tomorrow. 6.0 miles at U of M Flint rec center, 3 miles on the treadmill and 32 laps around the track. I always loose count... I found out today that Stevie Ray Vaughn,
If the House is a Rockin', is a great song to run to. Perfect tempo. Looking forward to running back in sunny So Cal.
Tuesday, December 27, 2005 02:01:44 pm (PST)7.0 miles at UM Flint rec center. 5.5 miles on the treadmill and 1.5 miles around their 1/10th mile track. Running with my iPod really helps pass the time inside.
Monday, December 26, 2005 08:34:08 pm (PST)
6.0 miles on the treadmill at Ann's today, testing the limits of my endurance while not moving an inch. I'm very thankful that my sister has a treadmill, I would not want to be running in sloppy 30 something degree weather down the dirt roads of Fowler, MI. I will be very happy to get back to the warm dry California weather.
Click here for a photo of me training
Saturday, December 24, 2005 09:04:53 am (PST)5.0 miles on the Treadmill today, while Aaron watched Pokemon on TV. Getting ready for Christmas dinner.
Friday, December 23, 2005 03:14:10 pm (PST)I'm at the farm in Fowler, Michigan. Just got here today, and power-walked 2.5 miles with my sister Ann. Later I ran 2 miles on her treadmill. I'm still getting used to treadmills. It's difficult to keep going.
Wednesday, December 21, 2005 05:17:31 pm (PST)First full day in Michigan for vacation. I went 6+ miles at the UofM Rec Center. 40 minutes on a treadmill that I figure was good for 3.5 miles, and at least 30 laps around a 1/10th mile indoor track. Both were new experiences for me. Thanks to my friend Bud Prottengeier, who is 81 and a life member of the club, I got a grand tour of the facilities and 3 daily use passes. I will be able to go and use the center 2 more times during my vacation. Thank you Bud! I appreciate your support.
Saturday, December 17, 2005 12:52:49 pm (PST)14.0 miles with the team today in Irvine at 6:30am. Irvine is more hilly than Huntington Beach, so I welcomed the shorter distance. It was cool and overcast, perfect running weather. Felt pretty good at the end, the hills added to the workout.
Wednesday, December 14, 2005 08:35:48 pm (PST)6.0 easy miles around the neighborhood tonight. Although they weren't that easy. I've been busy lately trying to get everything done for Christmas. Finding it hard to squeeze in time for a run. I figured, I should try to increase my miles on these mid week runs, only a month left to train.
Monday, December 12, 2005 07:09:04 am (PST)4.0 miles before work today. It was a brisk 47° out, hard to go out, but nice running weather. I roughly timed myself at 43 minutes including several traffic stops. I feel good about my speed. My foot and ankle are feeling good to.
Saturday, December 10, 2005 01:43:42 pm (PST)After 3 days of rest, I set a new distance record today. 18 miles with the team in Huntington Beach. I ran with a teammate Nicole, who hadn't been at the Saturday runs for a while. She and I are close to the same level, so our run went very well. It took 4 hours and 20 minutes to cover the 18 miles. That includes stretching and bathroom breaks, so our 14:20 minute miles doesn't sound too quick. The main thing for me is covering the distance so I'm very happy.
Tuesday, December 6, 2005 08:37:07 pm (PST)4.0 miles around the neighborhood tonight. It's cold and dark here, not my favorite time to run.
Monday, December 5, 2005 08:40:27 pm (PST)Hit 400 Miles tonight! I went for a 5.0 miler around the neighborhood tonight. It's been cool here 55°, but once I get moving it's great running weather. The temp in the morning is closer to 40° so I much prefer the evening runs. My new shoes feel great. I think the old ones were pretty worn out.
Saturday, December 3, 2005 05:15:41 pm (PST)Today was a tough day. I started out hoping to do 18 miles with the Team. Only three of us were there at the start this morning (6:30 am). We started out too fast, I ran with my mentor for about 7 miles when another teammate met up with us mid course. The pace quickened and I couldn't keep up. I ran the last 9 miles alone. By mile 14, my left foot and ankle were hurting. I had to take several walking breaks to finish a 16 mile run. In the end, the run took around 3.5 hours, 13 minute miles.
After 380 miles in the same shoes, I bought a new pair today. Running shoes are expected to last 300-500 miles so I'm hoping the new shoes will help my foot pain. A quick test of the new pair and it was pretty evident that my old ones had lost a lot of their cushioning, even though they didn't look bad. It should make a big difference on my long runs.
Thursday, December 1, 2005 03:26:46 pm (PST)5.0 miles before work this morning. It was foggy and 55°. I started out with a sweatshirt but shed that after 2 miles. I roughly timed myself today to get an idea of my current speed. 55 minutes for a relaxed run with traffic.
Tuesday, November 29, 2005 09:44:42 am (PST)It was in the mid 40's again this morning, very hard to crawl out of bed for a run. Managed to get in a 3.0 miler before work. It's my mom's last day here, I need to keep this evening free.
Monday, November 28, 2005 08:55:58 am (PST)It was 44.5° degrees here this morning! I'm not prepared for the cool weather, last week it was near 90°. Got up at 5:30am for a morning run, but it was hard to get out of bed. Once I did, I had a nice 4.0 mile run around my neighborhood and back for breakfast with mom and off to work.
Saturday, November 26, 2005 12:11:37 pm (PST)A 16 mile run finished off a nice 33.3 mile week. The longest week yet. I ran today in Huntington Beach with the Team. It was a beautiful day, but the sun got hot near the end and the crowds were growing.
Friday, November 25, 2005 08:00:03 pm (PST)This morning John ran with Barbara and I. John didn't like the fact his wife was running around in the desert with his single brother. It was supposed to be my 'day of rest' so we did an easy 3.4 miler. It was fun to run with family this week.
Thursday, November 24, 2005
My mapping of Borrego Springs wasn't too accurate. Barbara and I went out this morning for a 5.5 mile road course that I had mapped out using Google maps. Turns out Google maps has roads that don't exist... ...a couple of detours, including following the power lines across the desert, but we made it back in time for Church. We figured we ran a solid 5.5 miles.
Wednesday, November 23, 2005I'm in Borrego Springs, CA celebrating Thanksgiving with Mom, Mike, John & Barbara and my nephew's Stephen and Andrew. We are all staying at Ray & Marion Bolanos' (Barbara's parents) winter home and having a great time. Barbara ran with me today 3.4 miles around Borrego. Beautiful weather for a morning run.
Monday, November 21, 2005 09:17:26 am (PST)
Mom and Mike are here, so I took the day off work. Slept in until 7:00 this morning :) and then went for a 5.0 mile run around the neighborhood. Beautiful weather here 55-65° and bright sunshine. A nice day for a run.
Saturday, November 19, 2005 12:24:44 pm (PST)I had a nice easy, 14 mile run with the Team this morning in Huntington Beach. The weather was very clear and sunny, started out around 49° and ended up much warmer. A beautiful day for a run. Today I ran slower than usual, so at the end of the run I felt great.
Thursday, November 17, 2005 07:05:41 am (PST)Too little sleep, and cold temp, 49° made this morning's 4.0 mile run a little tough. The Santa Ana winds here brought in cold dry air. I never quite felt good today, except now I'm feeling energized and happy that I ran. My mom and brother Mike will both be here today to spend Thanksgiving with me. I'm looking forward to their visit.
Tuesday, November 15, 2005 08:41:58 pm (PST)I got a very late start tonight, 7:40pm. It took me almost an hour and a half tonight to get home from work. Stopped for a hair cut, fortunately my new buzz cuts only take about 5 minutes. Went 5.0 easy miles around the neighborhood. It's windy, dry and warm here 75° still at 8:45pm. This new LSD method feels very good. My run still took less than an hour, and I feel great.
Monday, November 14, 2005 06:45:07 am (PST)I'm hooked on LSD. Last night I read Joe Henderson's 1969 publication on LSD, Long Slow Distance. He wrote about 5 world class runners plus himself that rarely if ever trained at their fastest pace. These are runners who finished marathons during the 1960's in 2:20 times. This theory is running (training) should be enjoyed not endured. Something you do every day because you want to spend some quality time outdoors and like to run, not because your trying to shave seconds off your mile time. The results, were that these athletes won events such as the Boston Marathon - Amby Burfoot, 1968 winner. Amby is still today the editor of Runner's World magazine.
This morning I was up at 5:30 to try LSD. It's great! I left my condo at 6:00 for a 4 mile run through the 54° fog, it was cold and damp. I wore a sweat shirt for the first time running, out for pleasure not speed. I went around my standard loop enjoying the zero visibility. Paying attention to the sights, sounds and aromas of the neighborhood. The normal landmarks, usual indicators of how much more I had to endure today were looked upon as accomplishments of how far I'd gone in what seemed like a short time. No heart rate monitor, I was breathing easy. No stop watch, I was stopping at corners. I got back home with the microwave telling me it was 6:45. hmmm couldn't have been much more than 4 minutes off my ALL TIME RECORD. That's it! I'm already thinking about tomorrow's run around the hood.
Saturday, November 12, 2005 03:12:28 pm (PST)I missed our Team Training Session for the first time today. After being sick for 4 days, I wasn't going to try to get up at 5:00am and run some extreme distance. In Jim Fixx's book,
The Complete Book of Running, Joe Henderson, then Editor of
Runner's World magazine, recommends LSD. Not the drug, but a training method known as LSD, Long Slow Distance. Since I hadn't run in 4 days, and I wasn't sure how I felt, I went out for a trial LSD run. I left my heart rate monitor and my stop watch at home so I wouldn't be tempted by time and I chose a course that I could go, 3, 4, 5 or 6 miles depending how I felt. I felt very good at the half way point, and at the end of 6, I felt like I could go several more. This one experience has shown me the importance of not worrying about time -
Just Do It!
Thursday, November 10, 2005 06:27:06 pm (PST)I've taken a few days off training this week. I caught a bit of a cold, so I'm laying low to get rid of it.
Monday, November 7, 2005 08:05:20 pm (PST)Hit 300 training miles tonight with a 3.0 mile run around the neighborhood. I'm still recovering from the race, so I didn't want to go far. I went for speed and ended with a 29:52 time, 9:57 per mile! Finally under that 10 minute mark. My November miles are starting out slow, but they will start to add up soon.
Saturday, November 5, 2005 10:15:47 pm (PST)Santa Barbara Half MarathonI ran my first Half Marathon today, 13.1 miles in 2:28:31, 11:20 minute miles. I'm very happy with my results. It was a great day to run in SB, beautiful sunny weather. I started out too fast, had to walk some of the hills, but I felt I finished strong.
Friday, November 4, 2005 09:58:37 am (PST)No training today, Traveling to Santa Barbara for the Half Marathon Saturday. I'm very excited, looking forward to the race.
Tuesday, November 1, 2005 09:21:01 pm (PST)Blog Update - Not my fastest time tonight, on Oct 13th I made it in 16 seconds faster... (40:18) I guess I'm just getting older...
Tuesday, November 1, 2005 08:51:51 pm (PST)4.0 miles around Mile Square Park tonight. I tried for speed, didn't set a 4 mile record, but I think this is my fastest time at the park, 40:34. Just over 10 minutes per mile. If I can do that Saturday I'll be very happy.
Monday, October 31, 2005 06:52:26 am (PST)Happy Halloween! My Trick was running, my Treat was getting it done quickly. It was 53.8° this morning at 6:00am... The nice things were the sun was coming up and it was very clear. 4.0 miles around the neighborhood. I went for speed today - 39:24 total, 9:51 minute miles! I feel very good. It's nice to have it done in 40 minutes...
Saturday, October 29, 2005 11:55:23 am (PDT)16.0 miles with the Team in Huntington Beach today. It started off cool 56°, and dark at 6:30 am but quickly got light and warmer. It took about 3.5 hours to complete the run, but we run at a nice training pace with short water/walking breaks. It's more about distance than time. A great finish to a 31 mile week.
Santa Barbara or bustNext Saturday, is the Santa Barbara Half Marathon (13.1 miles), my original goal event. I will be running the Half as a training event. I'm looking forward to a nice mini-break up in beautiful SB, and a record breaking Half Marathon Time :)
Thursday, October 27, 2005 08:34:52 pm (PDT)5.0 miles around the neighborhood tonight. It was perfect running weather, 62° and clear. I broke my record 49:11, that's 9:50 minutes per mile. Finally under 10 minute miles.
Another Major Milestone - $4000.00 Raised! We did it!, we hit my goal and this doesn't include my pledge. It seems fitting that we would hit this amount one day before Mike's Birthday. Happy Birthday Mike!
Tuesday, October 25, 2005 08:34:48 pm (PDT)6.0 miles around the neighborhood tonight. I got a late start, I wasn't going for time, but in the end did pretty good, 1:04:31 or 10:45 minutes per mile. Also today we (you and I) hit the $3800.00 mark in fund raising. I have to sign my re-commitment papers this week for the Phoenix Marathon. It's great to have my fund raising well in hand. Thank you all!
Monday, October 24, 2005 08:54:50 am (PDT)4.0 miles this morning at 6:00am around the neighborhood. I made every light - no resting and no stopping the watch. Total time 40:55 - 10:14 minutes per mile. I'm feeling pretty good that 4 miles is now my short run.
Saturday, October 22, 2005 12:12:21 pm (PDT)14.0 miles with the Team today. We started early, 6:30am it was dark, cool and very damp in Huntington Beach. I was expecting to run 16, but we changed the course a little and added some hills. The team consensus was 14. The dampness turned into drizzle, but it was very good running conditions. I feel a lot better this week.
Thursday, October 20, 2005 08:03:39 pm (PDT)Tonight I feel good. 6 miles around the neighborhood in 1:02:12 that's 10:22 minutes per mile. I stopped my watch when I was forced to stop at traffic lights, so that is an accurate average time. The weather was good for running, 63° and a little damp.
Tuesday, October 18, 2005 08:33:57 pm (PDT)I got a late start tonight, I had a meeting until 7:30. Ran 4 miles around my neighborhood in 43:56. Not that great of time, but a lot of traffic to contend with.
Monday, October 17, 2005 07:35:33 pm (PDT)The rain stopped long enough for me to get 4 miles in tonight. Ran around my neighborhood jumping puddles. Made it in 44:10, not great time, but fine considering traffic and I'm still recovering from Saturday's run.
Saturday, October 15, 2005 01:55:59 pm (PDT)14.0 Miles with the Team today. It was a good day to run in Huntington Beach, sunny and 60's. It was a long hard run, 2 hours 56 minutes. 12:30 minutes per mile. I've surpassed my original goal of 13.1 miles.
Thursday, October 13, 2005 08:30:16 pm (PDT)Record time tonight! 4.0 Miles in 40:18, 10:05 minute miles! I ran around Mile Square Park, it was hot here today and the trees at the park seem to hold in cool air. I felt very good. I'm pretty sure I did the first mile in under 9 minutes.
Tuesday, October 11, 2005 08:16:20 pm (PDT)6.0 miles through Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Fountain Valley and Westminster. A brisk 65:35 minute tour of the four cities. I feel great! better than 11 minute miles. I also broke the 200 mile mark tonight. It's finally feeling good.
Monday, October 10, 2005 06:55:58 am (PDT)4.0 miles around the neighborhood this morning. Perfect running weather - a bit nippy at 57° - I made record time, 42:33 that's 10:38 miles! I feel very good today.
Saturday, October 8, 2005 12:26:38 pm (PDT)12 mile run with the Team at Huntington Beach this morning. It was very cool, perfect running weather. I decided not to increase my distance from last week. I felt pretty good today. Next week, I'll go farther.
Thursday, October 6, 2005 08:31:53 pm (PDT)It's very hot here today, 8:00pm and still 81° - 18% humidity. I decided to try and make an easy 4 miler. ... no watch ... no heart monitor... well I made it but the heat was pretty nasty - ran out of water, it's very dry.
Tuesday, October 4, 2005 08:27:17 pm (PDT)Tried to pick up my pace around Mile Square Park tonight. It worked, 4.0 miles in 44 minutes - 11 minute miles. I feel good about that, but I'd like to shave at least another minute off my mile time.
Monday, October 3, 2005 08:00:56 pm (PDT)5.0 miles tonight around the neighborhood. I don't think I'm fully recovered from my saturday run. Even though I felt crappy I managed to finish in 12 minute miles.
Saturday, October 1, 2005 01:44:57 pm (PDT)12.0 Miles today! This ended a 25 mile week. I ran with the Team at Huntington Beach today, expecting to run 10, and anxious about that, then the coach sprange a 12 mile run on us. There was a heavy marine layer today, and it was very humid. It took over 2:40 for me to make it, but I did. Our distances are really starting to increase now.
Thursday, September 29, 2005 09:24:41 pm (PDT)I got home from work late tonight, I stopped at the running store to pick up a new jersey and some socks. They really performed well. It was very warm at my house, close to 90 at 7:30pm, so I went down to Mile Square Park for my run. I felt very good, started out easy and ended well. 4.0 miles in 44 minutes! My time is finally picking up a little.
Wednesday, September 28, 2005 07:21:24 am (PDT)4.0 miles before work. It doesn't seem to be getting easier... It was a bit hard to get out of bed this morning, but I'm glad I did.
Monday, September 26, 2005 09:28:15 pm (PDT)5.0 miles after work. I felt pretty rough starting out, but after a mile or so, got into the groove... ended up at almost exactly 12 minute miles.
Saturday, September 24, 2005 11:23:19 am (PDT)9.0 miles at Huntington Beach with the Team today. I felt pretty good. The weather was great for running cool and overcast. Today the Team ran slower, I was able to run with some teammates for the last half of the run. I really can't believe that I've been able to keep up. This has been a great experience so far.
Thursday, September 22, 2005 08:18:20 pm (PDT)4 miles around the neighborhood tonight. A better route than last night. Not feeling so great these past couple runs, not real bad, just not real good. I need a good night's sleep. Saturday is scheduled a 9 mile run... ...yikes.
Wednesday, September 21, 2005 08:37:41 pm (PDT)I hope this isn't the first blog entry you're reading, because I felt like crap tonight running 4 miles around my neighborhood. I chose a different route, and it was a bad idea. Too much traffic, too many driveways and street crossings. I'll definitely go back to my old route. I was glad when this run was over, all 51 minutes and 31 seconds of it.
Monday, September 19, 2005 08:18:56 pm (PDT)
I had a plan to wake up at 5:30 this morning and go 4 miles before work. Unfortunately a restless night's sleep, anxious about going 4 miles before work, ruined my plans. So tonight I did a lap around Mile Square Park beating out a rare thunderstorm. I was just on the edge of it, and now that I'm home it sounds like it's getting closer. It was great motivation to run faster...
Saturday, September 17, 2005 10:16:50 am (PDT)8 miles this morning with the Team. This ends a 20 mile week! I feel very good, finishing in 1:32 just 3 minutes longer than last weeks 7 mile run. (That has to be some kind of record, 1 mile in 3 minutes) or maybe my overall mile time was slightly faster. I did run the last mile pretty hard though... my times should continue to improve.
Thursday, September 15, 2005 08:51:39 pm (PDT)5 miles tonight around my neighborhood. I tried to take it easy, at 2.5 miles the burrito I had for lunch was acting up... I still made the run in 12 minute miles, 1 hour exactly.
Tuesday, September 13, 2005 09:06:18 pm (PDT)4 miles tonight around Mile Square Park. The park is nice because there are a lot of walkers and runners, however it was pretty much dark while I was running. I made great time 44:11, 11 minute miles. I've very happy with my progress.
Monday, September 12, 2005 06:45:36 am (PDT)3 miles this morning in 32m 35s. I went out for speed because I was "only" running 3 miles... I started out a bit fast, had to slow down quite a bit in the second mile, but picked it back up in the third. I felt very good shaving more than a minute off my average time.
Saturday, September 10, 2005 11:06:31 am (PDT)
7 miles today with the Team! Although I'm the slowest runner in the 'Advanced' group... (Advanced go the farthest distance on Team training days) It put a nice end to and 18 mile week. The weather was great today for running at Huntington Beach, 65 and overcast. I'm glad there was no rain or drizzle, they were forecasting it. I made the run in 1:29, figuring in a stretching break and 2 traffic signals, I'm still pretty close to my 12 minute miles.
Thursday, September 8, 2005 07:56:21 pm (PDT)OK, tonight was the third day in a row that I've run. With the holiday, my week got off to a slow start. Although I did hike on Monday. I figured two 3 mile days in a row would be fine. Well I'm ready for a rest. I meant to take it easy tonight, and finished in just over 36 minutes around my neighborhood.
Wednesday, September 7, 2005 08:15:40 pm (PDT)I went out for an easy 3 mile run after work tonight. I wasn't sure how I'd feel on the day after a 5 mile run. I felt very good. Even though I took it easy, my time was 37 minutes, again just over 12 minute miles. I guess I've found my pace...
Tuesday, September 6, 2005 08:11:57 pm (PDT)
My first 5 mile training run on my own tonight. It felt very good. I ran around my neighborhood - well quite a way around it... dealt with all the traffic signals and corners and still managed 61 minutes, just a hair over 12 min miles. When I factor in the number of corners I made good time.
Saturday, September 3, 2005 10:10:46 am (PDT)I did it! 6 mile run today in Huntington Beach with the Team making this a 17 mile week (not obvious because is spans two months). I say 'with the team' loosely, we started together and ended back at the same location, but I pretty much run alone. I have to run my own pace - most of the other runners are thinner, younger & faster... There was a heavy marine layer (overcast) and it was cool - it makes for perfect running weather. I even had enough energy to sprint (ha ha ha) the last block.
Thursday, September 1, 2005 08:00:58 pm (PDT)The first day of September, I looked at my calendar today, and man did it look blank... went for 4 miles tonight around the neighborhood. I got home at a reasonable time from work. The run went pretty good. My time was 47:54 - staying pretty close to that 12 minute mile mark...
Wednesday, August 31, 2005 07:03:33 am (PDT)Out this morning for a 3 mile run. I'm wasn't feeling very good this morning my legs felt like they were made of lead. I've been pushing myself pretty hard, I think that I may be over training. I'll probably try to relax my schedule a little bit.
Tuesday, August 30, 2005 09:26:35 pm (PDT)$3000.00 Raised to Date!
We passed the $3000.00 mark today! I have raised my goal to $4000.00 so I won't break the Fund-O-Meter. Thanks to all who have donated so far. I am truly grateful to everyone.
Monday, August 29, 2005 08:55:51 am (PDT)Another early monday morning run. Today I went 4 miles before work. It was nice running weather the sun was just coming up and it was about 70 degrees out. Hurricane Katrina hit the coast this morning. Remember to keep those people in your prayers.
Saturday, August 27, 2005 10:01:05 am (PDT)
Trained today with the team in Irvine. It was very HOT, at 7:30 this morning, the sun was blazing and I'm sure it was close to 80 degrees. I thought we were scheduled for a 6 mile run, but was a 5 mile run today. I'm glad, the heat was a killer.
Thursday, August 25, 2005 09:17:03 pm (PDT)Today was another long day at work. My work is going through a tough time right now. My job is safe for now. I got home after 7:30 and didn't get out to run until 8:00. It was still 80 degrees out and very dry. I went for 3 miles and drank a whole bottle of water.
Tuesday, August 23, 2005 08:39:37 pm (PDT)Today was a long day, I started out by having blood drawn for my physical, and didn't get home until 7:00pm. I figured I should at least get out for a short run, didn't make it out until 8:00pm. Ran 3 miles around the neighborhood in the dark. It felt really good to FINISH tonight...
Monday, August 22, 2005 09:15:11 am (PDT)Up at 5:30am for 3 miles around the neighborhood. Still feeling good, it's nice to get the run over with before work.
Saturday, August 20, 2005 10:17:41 am (PDT)
Another record broken! I guess this is going to happen weekly as my mileage increases, but I ran 5.0 miles today with the team. I felt pretty good, but plodding along for an hour starts to get mental... Hmmm... I wonder how mile 13 will feel?
Friday, August 19, 2005I saw my Doctor today at the advice of concerned friends about such an aged man starting a running program. My Doctor gave me an EKG, and the green light to keep up with my program. He was quite surprised when I told him how many miles I've been running...
Thursday, August 18, 2005 08:55:10 pm (PDT)Another evening run around Mile Square park. I got a late start tonight, around 7:30. Finished up in the dark. My miles are adding up. I have 11 miles so far this week, and I expect to go 4 on Saturday with the team making this a 15 mile week.
Tuesday, August 16, 2005 08:18:21 pm (PDT)4 miles around Mile Square park tonight. Felt pretty good. I made it in just over 47 minutes, 12 minute miles are slow by running standards but a good pace for me right now. I hope to shave several minutes off that time by November.
Monday, August 15, 2005 08:57:13 am (PDT)Up at 5:30am for a 3 mile run today. Very hard for me, I'm not a morning person... but I'm trying to become one.
Saturday, August 13, 2005 10:10:54 am (PDT)Second week with the Huntington Beach team. We took another route today due to the Pro Beach Volleyball tournament going on. I went 4.0 miles - the distance for advanced runners. I feel GREAT. We had a stretching seminar that really helped.
Friday, August 12, 2005 02:31:43 pm (PDT)Thank you All! $1000.00 reached!I hit a major milestone today in fund raising, $1000.00. Thanks to all who have donated so far. I'm very confident I'll make my goal.
Thursday, August 11, 2005 06:53:38 am (PDT)I woke up naturally at 5:00am this morning - something is going on here... went for a 3 mile run. The temp as around 67 degrees. Great running weather.
Tuesday, August 9, 2005 08:38:23 pm (PDT)Major Milestone tonight! 4.0 Miles. Instead of running in my hood, I went down to Mile Square Park. (You can see it from space) Oddly enough it is one square mile, so easy as once around is a great 4 miler.
Sunday, August 7, 2005 05:07:35 pm (PDT)It was supposed to be my 'rest day' but I have to take advantage of the weekend hours. It was so beautiful here today I went for a bike ride to the beach. I bit of a strong head wind, but I made it 24 miles.
Saturday, August 6, 2005 11:55:42 am (PDT)First Team Training Day!Today was the first Team Training day at Huntington Beach. I woke up at 5:45am to be at my training before 7:00am. We had the choice of running 2, 3 or 4 miles. I chose to run 3.0 miles, so I wouldn't over-do my first Team day out. I feel great! There are about 20 people on my team. Mostly women - three men. So now I'll be chasing girls early every Saturday morning.
Wednesday, August 3, 2005 08:34:03 pm (PDT)3.0 Miles after work tonight. I feel good. getting stronger every day.
Tuesday, August 2, 2005 09:23:57 pm (PDT)
30 minutes on my recumbent trainer bicycle after work. I was able to maintain a good aerobic heart rate tonight. 7.8 miles according to it's odometer.
Monday, August 1, 2005 10:37:22 am (PDT)1.5 Miles this morning around the neighborhood. Perfect running weather 65 degrees overcast. New shoes feel good.
Saturday, July 30, 2005 08:55:36 pm (PDT)
Official Kick-Off Meeting today!
It was great, I got some neat stuff - A very nice TNT Training shirt (hi-tech) no t-shirts for this team... we met our 'honored teammate', Noah a 4 1/2 year old boy with Leukemia. He is what this is all about. I also met my coach and mentors that I'll be working with for the next few months.
New Shoes Today!I got fitted for new Asics brand running shoes today they feel great. I had to try them out with a three mile run around my neighborhood. Due to the hot weather, I waited until the sun went down. - it helped, but not much.
Wednesday, July 27, 2005 08:47:55 pm (PDT)
Crossed trained on my exercise bike tonight. 7.7 miles in 30 minutes. The trainer is much harder to ride than a regular bike, it's too easy to stop.
Tuesday, July 26, 2005 09:16:22 pm (PDT)6 runs under my belt and I'm almost up to 1/2 marathon... I wasn't going to run tonight, but I watched Lance Armstrong on Oprah (TiVo'd) after work and got inspired. I timed myself tonight. It was a sad 12+ minute mile run. At this rate it will take me all day. Good thing I have 3 months to train.
Monday, July 25, 2005 08:56:53 pm (PDT)3 Mile run around the neighborhood after work. I felt good, it was about 80 degrees but there was a nice breeze.
Sunday, July 24, 2005 03:23:39 pm (PDT)Cross trained today on my road bike. Vive le Tour de France!
Congratulations to Lance Armstrong on victory #7!
I felt really good, I rode 24.2 miles in 1 hour 42 minutes averaging 14.1 mph. Took a bit of a break at the half way point to hang out at Huntington Beach. Not quite as fast as when I was 24 years old, but a really good ride.
Saturday, July 23, 2005 02:51:33 pm (PDT)I posted this site live today. Up till now, I've been the only one reading this blog...
Saturday, July 23, 2005 10:26:16 am (PDT)I had high ambitions for my first Saturday run, however we have been having record heat here so I didn't want to kill myself. I rolled out of bed about 7:30 which is extremely early for me on a Saturday. It was already 80 degrees in my condo and 75 outside with a blazing sun. My planned 3 mile loop is void of any shade so I went out on my 1.5 mile course hoping for some shade trees. Once I got out there and got going, it felt pretty good. I mixed it up a bit and added another 1/2 mile to make it a solid 2 mile run.
Today I re-measured my running courses using Google maps, which appears to be extremely accurate. I revised my 1.8 mile (estimated distance) to a more accurate 1.5 miles and mapped out several new courses ranging from 1.5 to 4 miles.
I'm getting very excited about my progress. Especially that I have kept to my plan.
Thursday, July 21, 2005 03:35:02 pm (PDT)Hard to get out of bed for my run this morning, but I made it 1.5 miles around the neighborhood again. The weather was nice but it's getting warmer here.
Tuesday, July 19, 2005 08:35:36 pm (PDT)1.5 miles around the neighborhood before work today. It was nice, 65 degrees. Good time to run.
Sunday, July 17, 2005 08:21:07 pm (PDT)My first un-official training run today, 3.2 miles at the beach. I felt pretty good for not running in a while.
Saturday, July 16, 2005I joined Team in Training Today. Looking forward to running my first Marathon and raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
